Tim Burton to Adapt Pinocchio with Robert Downey, Jr.

Tim Burton wants to adapt yet another Disney classic – this time a live-action version of Pinocchio. Robert Downey, Jr. would play the woodcarver Geppetto, around whom the film would likely center. Warner Brothers is currently in negotiations with both Burton and Downey, Jr., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Bryan Fuller, best known for the TV series Pushing Daisies, penned the script. Burton also wants to begin production on an adaptation of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. His version of the vampire soap opera, Dark Shadows, with longtime collaborators Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, is scheduled to be released this year, as well as the stop-motion animated remake of his own short film from 1984, Frankenweenie. Other Pinocchio adaptations are also currently in development, the most interesting of which is a stop-motion project helmed by Guillermo del Toro.
