In one of the final scenes from Season Two of The Walking Dead, Andrea is saved by a mysterious hooded character wielding a samurai sword and chained to two armless and jawless zombies. Fans of Robert Kirkman’s comic series (2003-present) probably recognized her immediately as Micchone. Viewers who were not as versed in the comics were most likely left with an open cliffhanger for next season. Although it didn’t take long for producers of the AMC series to confirm the casting of Danai Gurira for Season Three, pictures of her in full wardrobe have only just appeared today.
Entertaiment Weekly has posted the picture below as production has begun on the next season, set to debut as always in October. Robert Kirkman commented on the casting choice for Micchone, “We looked at a lot of talented people that were really fantastic, but we were waiting for that one spark, that moment where everyone was completely in agreement and completely excited, and we felt like we had found the essence of this fictional character that just randomly appeared in another person, and that person was Danai Gurira. She kind of came in and really just blew us all away. She’s got incredible presence, and she’s got a theater background, and is very physical, and was just perfect for the role.”
