john-noble-san-diego-comic-con-2012_3992052Now that J.J. Abrams is behind the camera officially for Star Wars Episode VII, the rumors and news surrounding the Star Wars franchise in the hands of Disney is flying furiously.

Yesterday, the news that spinoff films would exist in the saga outside of the main storyline films dominated the internet. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news and shed more light by also confirming that Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) will be writing the spinoffs as well.

Then today, the rumors are spreading that John Noble (The Return of the King, Fringe) would be cast as the main villain in Star Wars Episode VII. Episode VII is being written by Michael Ardnt and scheduled for release in 2015.

Disney running the show with Kathleen Kennedy at the front is a great thing for the Star Wars franchise. It’s been said a lot lately, but Disney has done a masterful job of letting Marvel and the creative teams take control and be flexible. The results of the Marvel films have been great, let’s hope the same continues for Star Wars.
