Neil Young has stated that he has been sober for the past year, giving up alcohol and marijuana to write his forthcoming memoir, Waging Heavy Peace.
In an interview with the New York Times, the 66-year-old singer/songwriter admitted that he smoked and drank for 40 years. “Now I want to see what it’s like not to do it. It’s just a different perspective,” he says.
In Waging Heavy Peace, Neil Young writes, “The straighter I am, the more alert I am, the less I know myself and the harder it is to recognize myself.”
In addition to his memoir, Neil Young’s newest album, Psychedelic Pill, will be released on October 30th.
Waging Heavy Peace will be released on September 25th.
