Andrew Dominik, director of The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) and Killing Them Softly (2012), is re-teaming with Brad Pitt on the production of Blonde, a Marilyn Monroe biopic based on the Pulitzer Prize-nominated novel by Joyce Carol Oates (2000). Considering the source material, a postmodern and experimental retelling of the Monroe story, the film promises to offer a refreshing take on the formulaic genre of the biopic.
Discussions about the project had been tabled since 2010, but recently Brad Pitt announced that his production company, Plan B, will finance the film, with Dominik at the helm. As of now, it’s unclear whether Pitt will also appear in the film. He did star in the last two films that his company produced,The Tree of Life (2011) and Moneyball (2011). If Pitt continues his trend, we can expect yet another high-quality work.
