Disney’s ‘Snow Queen’ Film Confirmed

snow queenWalt Disney Animation Studios has confirmed that they will adapt Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, The Snow Queen, into a 3D animated film entitled Frozen. This will be a continuation of Disney’s fairy tale revival stories that have included The Princess and the Frog and Tangled, which were respectively inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ The Frog Prince and Rapunzel.

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

“In ‘Frozen,’ a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen and put an end to the icy spell. Encountering Everest-like extremes, mystical creatures and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.”

Broadway star Idina Menzel (Wicked, RENT) will voice the Snow Queen. Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon) and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Winnie the Pooh) will provide original songs for the film.

Frozen is scheduled to hit theaters in November 2013.
