Before you start teaching WordPress, don’t you think you should first create your own template for your site instead of store bought theme / thats modified? True wp gurus write their templates from scratch and own functions.php file…..

  2. I don’t think that’s required at all. In fact, this theme is free.

Being a guru doesn’t mean you have to design your own site, it means that you understand the platform and how to utilize the power it gives you to share content. Using the free themes provided via WordPress doesn’t mean that I (or others that use them) know anything less about WordPress.

Designing your own site from scratch is a whole other level of skill (I’m developing that skill), but publishing content via the WordPress platform is open to anyone who wants to try. My class teaches students how to get started with WordPress. It doesn’t teach how to write the code and design a site from scratch. That is a very different class.

You shouldn’t be so quick to judge.
