Casting Call: ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ Animated Movie

Following recent successes with direct to DVD animated titles by DC Comics, an adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns (1986) is slated for a two-part release with quite an impressive cast. Purists who favor the 1990s-era Batman animated series might have a hard time accepting anyone other than Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, but in his shoes is Peter Weller of RoboCop (1987) and RoboCop 2 (1990) fame. The cast also includes Ariel Winter as Carrie Kelly/Robin; Wade Williams as Harvey Dent/Two-Face; Michael McKean as Dr. Wolper, the Joker’s psychiatrist; and David Selby in an unspecified role.

This is not quite the first time Returns has been seen in cartoon form. This quick scene from the Warner Brothers series pays an homage to the basic premise of the graphic novel.

  1. aaaah! I heard about this! Seems pretty awesome. We're crunching through the Avengers animated show right now on NETFLIX, and it's pretty well made. I also heard there's a new Superman VS. The Elites movie too!
